Kaffeetschi - Shaking up Cold Brew Coffee
Being introduced to the UK for 2020 as part of our Beverage Accelerator, Austrian-based Kaffeetschi (pron. ka-fe-chi) are on a planet friendly mission to bring premium bottled coffee to trend-thirsty UK consumers. Because life is too short for bad coffee.
A brand that embodies a culture, Kafeetschi is anything but another ready-to-drink coffee. However how you pronounce it, it always tastes good and jumps out from a crowded shelf. On the streets of Vienna you will hear the word uttered between friends in need of a caffeine hit. In the UK, it looks set to give the cold brew market the injection of quality it is so in need of.
Kaffeetschi was launched in 2017 by Amar Cevic, a man who grew up immersed in the Austrian coffee scene. His father owned a roastery in Vienna, a hot bed of café culture and the birthplace of the colloquial term that has become his brand.
‘In Vienna, Kaffeetschi is an ancient term used between friends to signify a desire for coffee. It never had anything to do with quality. Until now’.
Six months in New York led to Amar discovering the beauty of cold brew, which had just hit the mainstream. He saw an opportunity. On his return home he spent considerable time perfecting the craft before launching his product into Vienna’s vibrant and substantial marketplace.
Just three years later Kaffeetschi has come to represent quality as well as desire. All beans are artisanal grade and sourced from organic farms in Central America via Direct Trade, ensuring farmers are paid more fairly than ever before. It also allows transparency at every step of the brewing process, from field to bottle, which is incredibly rare in any modern coffee-based product. Beans are chosen based purely on flavour profile, with the Kaffeetchi team recognising the importance of consistency in the chocolate, nutty palate and strong aftertaste that define these unique products.
But Kaffeetschi are not defined by the cold brew process.
‘We are more than a cold brew company. We are trying to provide quality coffee; artisanal grade that you can enjoy at the turn of a cap. Today it is cold brew, tomorrow it might be cold press or some other innovation. Whatever the development, we are committed to quality. And in a sustainable way.’
This planet-friendly approach has led to plant-based milks being used in all drinks rather than the more carbon-intensive cow’s milk, while all bottles are glass to ensure they can be easily recycled.
Furthermore, the quality of product is clear from shelf all the way through to taste. We can’t wait for them to hit stores up and down the country.
