Ziba Foods: Heirloom and Wild-Grown Whole Foods.
Being imported to the UK from January 2022 as part of the Brand Organic Accelerator Programme, Ziba Foods is an artisanal nut and dried fruit company that provides health and snack buyers with delicious, nutrient-dense and sustainably grown food from Afghanistan.
In the 1970s, Afghanistan was a global leader in the production of high quality dried fruits and nuts. Unfortunately, due to conflict and the unstable economic climate that followed, the country’s farms were unable to invest in the modern technology needed to keep up with global demand. By combining traditional growing techniques with modern food safety standards, Ziba’s aim is to restore Afghanistan to its position as a world-renowned producer of dried fruits and nuts.
The company works directly with small-scale farms and cooperatives, sourcing premium products via a unique direct advance pay model, empowering women and pioneering organic certification in the process.
Ziba was a partner of the EFI Food Initiative, a United Nations program run by the International Trade Center and funded by the European Union. The EFI Food Initiative connects food artisans from developing countries to socially and environmentally conscious consumers.
The products have already been recognised for their quality in the US, where the company sells to many of America’s top chefs and gourmet food providers, highlighting the premium experience that is evident from the look and feel of the packaging right the way through to the final taste. And with the sweet apricot kernels already being recognised with a great taste award, this trend looks set to continue here in the UK.
Ziba was founded for one simple reason – to recognise the incredible quality of Afghan dried fruit & nuts and bring these treasures to global markets, and Brand Organic is excited to bring these products to UK stores, initially in grab-and-go snack bag format, as pictured above.
